Over a billion people live with some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world’s population. People are disabled by society, not just by their bodies. One child in twenty is disabled, but physical disability is not a chance, unfortunate occurrence, it is part of the human life cycle.

The statistical probability that a portion of every life will be lived with a disability pertains to everyone. 38% of people believe disabled people are a burden on society. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of people have admitted they avoid disabled people because they don’t know how to act around them. One hundred and eighty disability hate crimes are committed every day in western countries.

The film is Directed by Rupam Sarmah, International Award Winning Director from California. Director’s Statement:

Regarding the film:

“I am so grateful to our entire team and so many people who supported and helped us in every steps along the way over the years. It was quite challenging to start with many unknowns as we had many children and young adults with disabilities acting in this film along with other award winning international actors. Some of them are with genetic disorder, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, autism, down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and so on. But it all came to reality when we completed shooting in many locations in India and USA exactly the way we planned. Disability is a matter of perception created by society in so many ways. As per stats, 38% of people believe that disabled people are burden on society. 65% of people admitted that they avoid disabled people because they do not know how to act around them. Never underestimate their abilities. It opened my eyes. Our Thoughts – Words – Actions matter a lot. We are all going to face the challenges with disabilities as we age or take turns in our life. In fact, we all know someone or our loved ones in our families with some disabilities who needs our Love — could be our parents, friends, brothers, sisters, children… so treat them well with respect as a person, and give them love and a helping hand, if you see someone on the road, home, cafe, school or anywhere. They do not need our pity; people comes first, they need our love as a human being, as our brothers, our sisters.. One Little Finger (Ability in Disability) is a feature film to be released in 2017 — it’s a Drama and Music Therapy is part of it. It’s more than that… a movement. Let’s get united! Continuing to collaborate with global organizations and people around the world in this journey! Please join our hands. “ ~ Rupam Sarmah
